Editorial and sponsored content

The articles are written from public sources named in each article, and the text states its limits where a source does not give a maker, a date, or a detail. A confirmed error is corrected on the page. The site carries no sponsored content at launch; if commercial or sponsored publication is added later, it will be labelled as such on the page, and any paid link will be marked as sponsored. The images are of two kinds: synthetic illustrations produced for the site are labelled as such, and are aids to reading the text, not faithful or probative reproductions of a named historical map or of a collection item; reproductions of historical items each carry a credit naming their source and their date.

Privacy

The pages are static. In the current code they contain no form, no user account, no analytics, and no application cookies, and you are not asked for personal details while reading. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which may process technical logs, such as request logs, as part of delivering the site to your browser.
